Emma Cline’s debut novel is a crime thriller revolving around a young girl Evie who is bored one summer when she meets a group of girls led by Suzanne. Evie fell into an idol-like worship for Suzanne and reaches a point where a girl’s life can go wrong when faced with loneliness. Cline makes the antagonist Russell based on a true character of Charles Manson and crimes committed in the story are loosely related to real life incidents.
